"If you collected the singles in '66 and '67, then this is the CD for you. At first, the line-up may look essentially like another Greatest Hits offer, but if you look closer, you'll see some titles which *should* have made that bracket chartwise.

For me, the major highlight along those lines is the Vicki Anderson-James Brown "Think" from '67. At that point, it was JB remake #2, and actually was recorded before the better-known live duet with Marva Whitney.

A Chart book confused the Anderson/Brown work with a '73 release [one of two more remakes that year!] and so it never really got it's due. And guess what? For collectors, we have the very first issue on CD of a number which was never reissued on 45rpm or even pressed on an album. [Historians, correct me if I'm wrong]. What a gem, to me worth the price of the double-CD, and then some.

And it goes on and on, a rare single edition of "Get It Together", some progressive jazz-inflected instrumentals, the Soul-shattering B-side ballad, "Nobody Knows", Brown at his most expressive, once again successfully mixing gospel and pop styles.

By that time, King Records issued less and less older, or more traditional sides, although the pressing of "Good Rockin' Tonight" is srnsational: bass is up in the mix, and the vocal sounds even greater than before.

Don't wanna spoil the surprise for the fans, historians, and collectors. Let's sum it all up with a title herein, "It's A Gas".

"This is a wonderful series. I have all four volumes. One of the best anthology series ever produced. I'm glad James had a chance to see this in production before he passed on. My highest recommendation for the real collector."

"all of the volumes are incredible if you are a big time James Brown fan. you see how far he came as a artist and where he was going. the Grooves never let up and neither does JB. it was great he got to see this unfold before his untimely passing. he is Missed,but his Great works are timeless."
