"This excellent collection kicks off with the spacious, melodic and structurally complex I Got You (I Feel Good) which the band Was (Not Was) celebrated so well on their 1991 hit song I Feel Better Than James Brown, then launches into the rollicking funk of Papa?s Got A Brand New Bag. The exuberant groove of Night Train is followed by the dramatic Man?s World and the anthemic Say It Loud with its gripping female vocal infusions in a type of call-and-response with Brown?s voice. There?s also the strangled passion of Cold Sweat, the hypnotic Sex Machine, Get On The Good Foot with its gorgeous yelps and Get Up Offa That Thing with its wild whistling and party atmosphere. I?m missing Please Please Please, Hot Pants and Think here, but perhaps they?ll be included later on a proper Greatest Hits collection. This Best Of is a brilliant introduction to the rhythmic, melodic and vocal genius of James Brown."
