"All I have to say is this is real Heavy Metal!!!!No matter what year it is or how times may have changed, Jag Panzer forges on with a crushing 2cd release. This is what they do,like it or not. There will be no radio airplay and trends can go to hell!!!!If your a fan of real Metal like Classic Maiden,Priest,Dio,Sabbath ect....Jag Panzer is for you."

"Not to be mistaken for a best-of collection (which is exactly what I thought I was getting when I ordered it), Jag Panzer's 2-disc Decade of the Nail Spiked Bat is actually a collection of old Jag Panzer material, re-recorded by the band's current lineup. Apparently former guitarist Joey Tafolla was blocking the reissues of the early Jag Panzer albums (1984's Ample Destruction and the Tyrant EP), so the band decided this was the best way to get these songs out to Jag Panzer fans that discovered the band during their 90's run.

I'm usually not a big fan of bands re-recording old material with a new lineup, but I never heard the originals in the first place, so this is all new to me. Better yet, it actually means we get to hear some authentic 80's American power metal with modern production values. I actually prefer this classic material to Jag Panzer's later work, so Decade of the Nail Spiked Bat turned out to be just what I needed.

I suppose this isn't going to be enough to satisfy serious Jag Panzer fans who have been waiting for official reissues of the early albums, but at least we can get a pretty good idea what the band's early sound was all about. I'd consider Decade of the Nail Spiked Bat a must-have for Jag Panzer fans, and a collection that any serious fan of the 80's metal scene should definitely check out.
