New spins to old songs

"Jadon Lavik's new record is refreshing amongst the many modern worship albums that have been released lately. Here we have a collection of untraditionally traditional Sunday morning hymns played in a modern fashion by this singer/songwriter. In listening to it, I was actually hoping to hear more remakes of the old hymns than the 11 that are here. I would've loved to have heard Beautiful Savior or Crown Him With Many Crowns, but oh well, I suppose it can`t be a double CD. Instrumentally, the album is very stripped down with a more coffee shop/acoustic feel to it which I think is a plus for the songs. It's almost exclusively acoustic guitar and piano. The purity of Lavik's smooth crooning adds a nice finishing touch. Blessed Assurance is one of my favorites for this reason, along with it's beautiful message and lullabye-like sway. Don't expect all the hymns to sound as you remember them, if you didn`t think Amazing Grace could be made into a jazz guitar song, you`ll have to hear it! The record grows on you and eventually I think you'll like it as much as I do.

"I love love love this album. I've always loved hymns, but Jadon's take on the hymns is modern and fresh without compromising what makes the songs great to begin with. This is one of my go-to CD choices - I've had it since Christmas and I still listen to it several times a week without getting tired of it. If you haven't discovered Jadon Lavik yet and you are a fan of the hymns, buy this CD immediately!"
