"Jackie Gleason himself notoriously could not read a note of music...Still,he knew what he liked, and what a lot of other people of his era liked as well;ROMANTIC renditions of some of the period's most beloved tunes, played with a lot of strings and horn solos...this is music for a quiet evening with the spouse,or the love-object,a bottle of wine, candlelight, and plenty of time to get into things...the fact that it is languidly paced does not detract ,unless of course you are used to noise ,which this album is not..."
This is the music Gleason made his musical mark with!

"This Collectors Choice re-issue of Gleasons' top ten selling album of 1956 c/w original liner notes and cover art, along with NINE bonus tracks,is a must have for all fans of "The Great One".
This is the music I remember Jackie best for;those slow romantic tempos and lush strings anchored by that wonderful Hackett horn, wafting through the ether like some ethereal mythological siren beckoning you, time after time until you eagerly give in.There was no one who could create such great mood music like Gleason could. He couldn't read or write music but his musical tastes and sensibilities were well anchored in the great American Songbook. And if he liked a more comtemporary tune it was taken and molded into and served up the way both he and the public liked it.And time after time the public indeed showed Jackie that they agreed with his musical directions,from/52 to /69.
This CD contains all the 15 tracks contained on the original album.Included is the Gleason composition"You're My Greatest Love".This was the theme song used on the "Honeymooners" opening and closing credits, but in a more subdued tone. Then come the great bonuses. The first is both sides of a single /55 release,"Autumn Leaves" b/w "Ooo,What You Do To Me".The rest are previously unreleased including "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm".Now for those who have any of the Christmas Albums this song is included on those but NOT this version. This is a more uptempo version. In fact most of these bonus tracks trade alot of the lush strings sound for more of the brassy, uptempo sound that Gleason is also well known for.
In conclusion this wonderful re-release of one of Gleasons' top selling albums is sure to please all lovers of his music. The original album is here with NINE bonus tracks, most unreleased, and with most of those selections with the more brassy sound Gleason was also known for. It's a well rounded CD,good value for the money and a definite must have for all Gleason fans out there or just lovers of plain GOOD music!"
