"In 1961 guitarist Marty Grosz tried to lure 53 year old trumpet legend, Jabbo Smith, out of retirement. Although Smith, who knocked the Manhattan jazz world on its ear in the 1920s, declined to become a full-time musician again, he did leave us this glorious rehearsal recording to ponder what might have been. Marty, Clarinetist Frank Chace, bass saxophonist John Dengler, and Big Mike McKendrick provide exemplary support throughout, and the music soars."
