Album DescriptionWhen the Freiburg Dufay Ensemble recorded this CD featuring the a cappella music of Jacobus Vaet (ca. 1529-1567) in 2002, the latest Bielefeld Catalogue did not contain one single recording of Vaet`s works despite the fact that this representative of the last generation of composers from the Franco-Flemish era had enjoyed a career similar to that of Orlando di Lassus. Vaet went on to become Highest Kapellmeister of His Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, who sat on the imperial Hapsburg throne. This production presents 6 motets and the Missa pro Defunctis from the large collection of Vaet`s works known to us today a total of 71 motets, 10 masses, 11 hymns, 8 magnificats and 3 chansons and is the first of four CDs recorded by the Dufay Ensemble featuring the music of Jacobus Vaet.
