Album Description2010 release. On this recording the brothers Vittorio and Lorenzo Ghielmi - both early music specialists - perform sonatas written by Johann Sebastian Bach and preludes and fugues from Bach`s Well-Tempered Clavier II. In addition to the two soloists` exceptional powers of interpretation, a further feature of this recording is the use of a Silbermann Fortepiano, a predecessor of the pianoforte, built by Gottfried Silbermann. Bach played a fortepiano when he improvised over the ricercar from Musical Offering at the court of Frederick of Prussia in 1747, in the presence of the monarch himself.
