"'Four Centuries of Bach' is the apropos name of a period instrument ensemble whose quality of performance and beauty of tone is of the highest standard. On this new release J.S. BACH: CONCERTOS FOR OBOE the soloist is also the conductor John Abberger and rarely have the oboe concertos of Bach sounded so supple and elegant.
Included on this splendid CD are four works: Concerto for oboe, violin, strings & continuo in F major BWV 1053R, Concerto for oboe & violin , strings & continuo in D minor BWV 1060R with Adrian Butterfield, Concerto for oboe, strings & continuo in G minor BWV 1056R, and Concerto for oboe d'amore, strings & continuo in A major BWV 1055R.
John Abberger may not erase the memories of some of his listeners' favorite oboists, but for those unfamiliar with these works, he definitely sets the gold standard not only for his superior technique, but also for his 'self-accompaniment'. This is a CD to treasure and hopefully there will be many more releases from this fine ensemble. Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, June 06"
Bravo!

"Undoubtedly the best records of all Bach's oboe concertos on period instruments available for today. Execution under conducting of Mr.Ponseele (Accent) seems a bit artificial and lifeless now."
