Pleasing music in the gallant style.

"These ten minute sinfonias make pleasing listening. Don't expect the boldness or contrapuntal intricacy of Johann Sebastian's music. His youngest son, a contemporary of Haydn, composed in a completely different style. Only the last of these sinfonias, in G Minor, offers anything startling or displays more than the most rudimentary harmonic progressions.
Four CDs in the Naxos catalogue are devoted to sets of J C Bach sinfonias, played by these musicians. The music is alluring and addictive in its own way and the Camerata Budapest, recorded somewhat distantly in an agreeable acoustic, play with grace and charm.
