"This was the first recording for Ismael Rivera (Maelo El Unico) with his new troupe Los Cachimbos, and produced by the late legendary Tito Puente (El Rey Del Timbal). The album starts off with the title track, bringing in the tambores and batas as the introduction, which leads into a swinging unmerciful latin jam that even the new generation can dig. The same style that Maelo had with Cortijo Y Su Combo can still be felt here as every track goes on. The balada (ballad) Ama has a piano solo that is touching and unforgettable. Other personal recommendations on this album are "Tambores Africanos" (done originally by Cuban legends Celina Y Reutilio Gonzalez from their album "A Santa Barbara", Suaritos Records), "Compay Guito", "Gulliver", "Cordero Y Belmonte", and "La Aranita", which was written by his mother Dona Margarita Rivera. What else can I say, except that Rivera left his legacy through his music and traditions of the plena and salsa. Rivera passed away on June 13, 1987 at the age of 56. Other recommendations: "Esto Fue Lo Que Trajo El Barco", "Soy Feliz" (Vaya / Fania) and "Traigo De Todo"."
