The African word Irakere oringinallly meant 'forest' but today, the band name has come to stand for a unique fusion of jazz, rock and Cuban rhythms. Led by the great Chucho Valdes, Irakere have just celebrated a quarter fo a century as Cuba's leading musical ambassadors, combining virtuoso musicianship and sophisticated improvisation with a profound appreciation of their African roots.
