CD ReviewsI Love Those Drums!!! Sunshine the Werewolf | Canada | 09/21/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "INVOCATION OF NEHEK I absolutely love a band that has this much of a groove and is this HEAVY - Many of you may not know about this hidden gem... but I assure you Invocation of Nehek is a band many will enjoy. The vocals are brutal... there are some hints of melody but for most part it is an aural assault. The exception is the singing vocals on: A Pictures Worth, they are kinda whiney and bit annoying but it is the only part in the album where there is really a massive vocal change... after a few listens it is a refreshing break to the insanity. Musically it is in vein of the late great: "Burnt by the Sun" And as with these metal/hardcore maniacs the drumming is a highpoint.... The Drummer: Tom O'Hare is one of modern metals finest young drummers, he has a style which is fresh is a world were double-kickers and blast-beats are the only things heard. It's not that he doesn't explore much of the common metal drumming skills, (For he can do both of these with much skill) but he has an underlying groove that amazes me seems to hold everything in place so well) Guitars and Bass keep everything in check but the primary focus is the drum work. The music is vicious but not to the point of obscurity. (Not every band can be Dillinger or BTBAM) This bands combines heavy.... And I mean Heavy! With a driving catchy groove... There are a few standout tracks on the album: Perfect Role, Mona Lisa, and Sever the Leech (My personal favorite) but there are no bad tracks... None!!! Not for those with Virgin ears... Listen and Enjoy. -4 Stars IF YOU LIKED, AGREED, OR APPRECIATED THIS PLEASE CLICK YES FOR: "Was this review helpful?" " Hard, fast, and pummeling metal assault N. Durham | Philadelphia, PA | 01/18/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Bursting out of the Connecticut hardcore/metal scene, Invocation of Nehek appears as one of the most promising new outfits to rock the genre today. Featuring some ultra intense drumming and bass work, ION is reminiscent of Hatebreed in their early days, only being more melodic in their rhythms and melodies without forsaking heaviness, but not the heavy/melodic radio friendly sound that has made Killswitch Engage popular. Songs like "Drawing Blood From a Stone", "Porcelain", and especially "Decay" are excellent tracks that show how full of promise Invocation of Nehek are, and as great as their self titled debut is, this is hopefully a taste of things to come. If you're a fan of Lamb of God or even In Flames, I wholeheartedly suggest checking out Invocation of Nehek; you won't be disappointed." More fun than a sock full of quarters. Daniel Ohare | Philadelphia, PA | 10/28/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Invocation of Nehek, or "Ion", as I like to call them, are a truly amazing force in Connecticut hardcore/metal/awesome (...). Amazing drumming that will rip your face off and make you eat it, guitar riffs so sweet you can pour them on a stripper and have a good ol' time, and vocals that will render your bowels useless and unable to function. Oh yea, and the bass is nice.
Its hard to classify Invocation of Nehek. Somewhere between Lamb of God, Testament, Unearth, and Dark Tranquillity... to save time, lets just call it "Succulent Metal." Seriously go pick this album up. Now. Dan "Prowler in the Shower" O'Hare" |
