CD Reviews

New Sound .......good buy
reviewer | NY | 03/04/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"What year is it? Oh yes 2002. This band brings me back. Way back. We need this kind of sound, for I must say being a huge critic on "new" music, I'm real skeptical on purchasing it. But Interpol, has done it. Brought back a sound worth spending your pound on my friends. Ok.....let's get the Joy Division comparisons out of the way here. Yes, the vocalist possesses some of Ian's "tones", but Interpol has their own sound, their own style and attract a variety of faces. The sound is powerful, melodic and catchy. Paul's voice is deep and constant which flows well with the crunchy (crunchy?)eighties, a little punky sound, that these NYC boys deliver. A little Chameleons, some Joy Division, and maybe even some Sigor Ros...have you heard them? It's necessary for a band with such sound to come out of our usual "basic Velvet Underground Rock N' Roll vibe" that NY seems to acquire. That's right basic. These boys are far from that. Hey,,,,I'm sick of sipping JD and coke and throwing on the Stones. blah blah blah.
Seeing them live is must, their look as well as their sound is magnetizing. You'll understand my feedback when you listen. Lend an ear, shed some cash. Buy It."
One of the few non-superficial bands that MTV can't wreck

"few bands come across with any sort of soul these days, and this is one of them. just doing their thing. of course, comparisons would be Joy Division, but in the best way. if I were you, check them out now. no need to worry too much though, they're too moody to break past anything but MTV's 120 minutes. maybe the fat vj kid will know, or maybe the weird nerdy girl vj whose lipstick is on the outside of the lines, and maybe you'll hear their songs in the backgroud of the Real World. the point is, MTV will know, which is some form of a stamp, but check them out now to make them your sound before they do."

"these guys rock!! I don't know much about them (I'm pretty sure this is their first recording). Chem. Underground has outdone themselves again. Not enough bands are exploring the energy this band does. I wish more did because we need more of this stuff. If you're tired of the same old indie, wannabe pavement, regurgitations, Interpol offer a new slice on the ticket. Melodic, powerful, dramatic, but still punchy and rocking."
