CD Reviews

Their new album... that doesnt sound too new
Nailed To Gold | New York | 10/19/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I rather enjoyed listening to this new Incantation album, but it still leaves us wanting more. Not only that, but it leaves me wanting to listen to Onward to Golgotha or The Forsaken Mourning Of Angelic Anguish. In addition to their standard blast beats and Incantation-style riffs, Incantation chugs out some slow, doomy riffs here and there that remind me of earlier My Dying Bride. Some of the slower parts are hit or miss, meaning that they are really cool, or that they sound stale.

Primordial (is that really a word ?) Domination sounds similar to their previous album, Decimate Christendom. In fact, I think I might like it a bit more that Decimate, but I just cant seem to get into as much as their earlier albums.

I do have some complaints:

1. Vocals - This is my main gripe. John's vocals style just doesnt live up to previous vocalists. Gone are the ultra-low rumblings of Craig Pilliard that I loved. I also enjoyed Mike Saez's vocal style as well.

2. Drums - Can Kyle expand on his style or what ? Every album since Diablolical Conquest has the same sounding drum beats. Im not a drummer or a musician, but I dont notice any progression in his drumming.

If you liked Incantations last 3 albums or so, you will probably enjoy this one as well.
