CD ReviewsImmortal's 2nd album is a Black Metal masterpiece. Emperial Black Wizard | Needham, MA | 10/29/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Wow. After their 1st album I was expecting more great raw Black Metal but nothing this good. This is what raw Black Metal is all about. This album is very fast and very dark. Even though the production on this album is not as good as some of their newer releases it still is amazing. The album almost makes you feel like it was recorded in a blizzard which only adds to there ice cold winter themed black metal. The guitars are very, very fast which has been Immortal's signature sound. Now for the drums. When ever I listen to, think about, talk about or write a review about Immortal I have to mention Erik. Erik is the infamous drummer that has graced Immortal with his unbelievable speed and talent. This is the last album Erik was able to make with Immortal because he killed himself before they were able to make a new one. This is Erik's last piece of work so this album is an automatic Black Metal classic. This album is very hard to find and so are the other original Immortal albums so I recomend you buy them now .... It took me years to find all of them in import sections in music shops. Now buy this and add it to your collection." Does Black Metal get any better? _this_ | Champaign, IL, USA | 01/20/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Most black metal fans seem to agree that Pure Holocaust is a classic, and after spending about 2 hours with my Walkman listening to this CD I have to agree. The sound is raw, but not cheap like early Bathory, and its more of an orchestration than a just a jam session like earlier black metal. This CD is an absolute classic in the Norwegian style of bm and it's also regarded as a classic in the entire metal world. Listening to the samples on this page doesn't do the music justice, so buy the real CD ASAP.Note: Erik does not play drums on this album, he joined during the mixing stage of this release." A classic in black metal, epic and mysterious Dion F. | Melbourne, Victoria Australia | 04/05/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "I am a big immortal fan , but only found out about them a year or so ago. I was first introduced to sons of northern darkness which is a great album, i immediately tried damned in black and then ATHOW. I loved them both. This caused me to check out their older more 'black metal' releases. I liked pure holocaust when i first heard it but not a great deal. But now it's one of my favourites along with Damned in Black. The music is chaotic, the way BM should be. High pitched vocals, very fast guitars, insane drumming. This is a true classic in black metal, containing all the elements needed such as speed, ferocity, melody and ambience which sends the listener into deep thought.
If you haven't heard this and you like black metal. I recommend you do so. Hail Immortal" |
