Album DescriptionWorld Premiere Recordings! Igor Raykhelson (b. 1961, St. Petersburg) studied both classical and jazz piano and early in his career formed a jazz quartet, The Emerging Stars, which toured extensively throughout the former Soviet Union. In 1979 Rayhelson moved to New York and began his piano studies with Alexander Edelman, going on to tour with such eminent jazzmen as Eddie Gomez, Joe Locke, and Russia's leading saxophonist, Igor Butman. In 1998 Rayhelson met the violist Yuri Bashmet, whose brilliance has inspired several pieces of music as well as the four works on this CD. This is the first of several albums of his music planned for Toccata Classics. The pre-emeinent viola player of our time, Yuri Bashmet has motivated the leading composer of our time to expand the repertoire. In addition, he holds the post of Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of New Russia, and is the founder-director of Moscow Soloists.
