INTELIGGENT ALBUM WRITTEN BY A GREAT MUSICIAN
PATHERSON | 11/09/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album by Gillan is about music, not formulas, not rotules like "rock", "jazz" or whatever. Gillan smartly used his time outside Purple commitments to record some different stuff. That was not the case in the MR. UNIVERSE / GLORY ROAD / FUTURE SHOCK days, when he had not Purple to release his full rockers, and so did it with his own band. No. Now, with Purple going strong and strong with Steve Morse on board, there was no need for Gillan release and old-fashioned rocking album. If he did that, I would be dissapointed. DREAMCATCHER is interesting since the first page of the booklet, when Gillan talks about the recent passing away of his father. The songs are well crafted and emotional; the production is simple. I just don't know if all drums and bas are electronic, because the credits only contain Gillan and his long time mate Steve Morris on guitar."
CAn't hardly recognize Gillan here...

"I couldn't hardly recognize Gillan here. The album is weak, poppish, something really weird."
The best rock vocalist ever??
Kael | Jugland | 09/25/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Maybe yes! Mr. Ian Gillan: a real master of vocals!! All his work, in Deep Purple or solo, are great, each of them has its own magic. Maybe that's why Ritchie Blackmore was always so envy of him...Born in 1945, Gillan continues to deliver strong music even today. he can abrange a lot of musical styles without selling out. He can flert with different sounds without making lousy music. He's a great composer, simply as that. One of the best EVER.Now, let's talk about DREAMCATCHER. It's a melodic, envolving, beautiful album. Alright, it's definitely not about hard rock, pure and simple. It has some new textures, some new idead, some hand-picked covers. It has it all!!! The production is not so great, I don't even know who played bass, keyboards and drums here. But the album can be listened from the first to the last track with a smile on your lips! A gem!!"
