"Lately, it seems like every alt-country band has the same sound; this strumming, easy going harmonizing stuff where every song sounds alike. Ever wonder whatever happened to the groups who's music had personality? Look no further. These dudes bring back the "grit" in a genre that's always been loosely defined, at the best of times. Every tune is unique with it's own flavour. I See Hawks in L.A. are doing what so many other outfits can't seem to do; making original, and fantastic "insurgent" music. I call it "California" alt, and you'll hear why once you get a hold their discs. Excellent songwriting, a great sense of humour, and just a plain honest love for what they do makes them a shining light in the music business. You can get their stuff through their web-site. Also recomended is Wrinkled Neck Mules, and Bucksworth (the best roots rock band around today). These are groups that are gaining noteriety in a growing resurgent (albeit still underground) California music scene; where I might add there's also a growing "Outlaw" country music resurgent of all places."

"solid musicianship, solid songwriting, a variety of styles, terrifc, compelling vocals. you even get a song from the viewpoint of a migrating whale and a song about slowing down on a fresno-area twisty road--what more do you want? if you need a frame of reference for the sake of comparison, they are more traditional than, say, the beachwood sparks. if you think you don't like "country music," you must be thinking about that swill nashville pumps out. this ain't that. check it out."
