Synopsis

Album Description
San Francisco's I Am Spoonbender return to GSL with three all-new tracks of post-futuristic proto-reality for the new-new-wave generation. While the group's 1998 debut, Sender/Receiver, remains a favorite amongst loyal GSL die-hards, Spoonbender's touring in support of the faint has introduced them to an eager, younger audience, while their expanded lineup has basically reinvented the group's aesthetic. Largely unfamiliar with their earlier work and undeniable place amongst cerebral audio deconstructionists such as This Heat and Zoviet France, the 'kids' will likely be anticipating a synth-buzzing, overcharged dose of digital-analog dance mayhem. That's exactly what they'll get. Cover art courtesy of the legendary UK design firm Hipgnosis, whose work for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Peter Gabriel is arguably the best rock-related art ever produced. Gold Standard. 2002.

CD Reviews

I Am Spoonbender walk all over the new new wave pretenders
Josh Keller | Seattle, WA USA | 11/30/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"So much more going on than what is happening in ANY of the fields this band happens to touch upon: metal (NEUROSIS' bass player is on this!), postpunk, pop, laurie anderson-esque commentary and innovation, and with trippy yet sharp lyrics...!
complex music masquerading as futurist art-pop. Don't make the mistake of lumping them in with.. uh- anyone. five stars."
Awesime...hope another LP is coming soon
Erica Sunshine | San Francisco, California USA | 11/18/2002

"I just picked this record up, and it's great ! It's more new wave than sender/reciever...it actually reminded of a prettier, catchier adult....ooh, I have nothing else to say..."
