"As a best-of anthology,"In a Perfect World" works well by being a solid selection from Human Drama's catalogue. For a new fan, this is a great introduction to a great band. For the older fan, this might be a great addition to a collection; not only are the first two tracks from the rare debut lp "Feel," (some fans have only heard these songs live) but "In a Perfect World" gives the listener a powerful representation of Human Drama's development over the last decade. A particular highlight is the painfully soft re-working of "The Waiting Hour," a definite show-stopper when played live, but every track here is outstanding. Over all, a great listen from start to finish."

"I think just about everyone that likes this band agrees that The World Inside was their best recording to date. I've enjoyed most of their work and I would have omitted several songs and added more INCLUDING Highway 99 (Wave of Darkness) from the old Scream! The Compliation cassette. As far as I know that doesn't exist anywhere on CD... which is a shame. This was the first Human Drama I heard and I've been a fan ever since.
My suggestion is to buy all of their work and make your own compliation. Sad I cry should not be here and the live version of Heroin definitely should. It seems like they were going for a sampler with this one more than a "Best Of". Still one of my favorite bands after all these years - I hope this is not the end!"

"Next to The World Inside, this is Human Drama's best album: the compilation. The only reason that I give it four stars instead of five is that there is a some of his crap on here I suspect for the sake of diversity. Taking "The Best Of" literally would require that three quarters of the CD have songs from The World Inside and most of the rest from Feel. For example, "Sad I Cry" is crap: I agree with the last reviewer here. However, if you can't get your hands on Feel--which you probably can't--then The Best has "I Could Be A Killer." There are also good songs from the live album here, so you don't have to purchase that. And there are a couple of other good ones. All in all, there are about five good songs on here, NOT including the songs from The World Inside. The last reviewer obviously has poor taste in music and is barely competent to speak of Human Drama. Nothing by Johnny Indovina is "melodrama." And the vocals actually vary. Sometimes, he sings well; other times not so well. Bottom line: if you have good taste in music, then you have Human Drama in your library, including The Best of Human Drama."
