CD Reviews

SOLID CD
Eric Pascal | Bayside, NY United States | 04/29/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The cd features Jeff Scott Soto & Marcel Jacob of Talisman & Yngwie fame...The CD mixes elemets of Rainbow & early Whitesnake... JSS & Jacob wrote & played all of the music on the CD... xecept on the song "jealousy" in which they are joined by Yngwie..The song "Heaven on Earth" is without a doubt the best song this duo ever wrote...This CD is just a solid CD from the first song until the last song on the CD....a strong CD and I hope you but this CD!!!"
Jeff Scott Soto does it again

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Journeyman vocalist Jeff Scott Soto and fellow Talisman member Marcel Jacob formed Human Clay in the mid 1990's, and released their self-titled debut in 1996. Was Soto really that bored with Takara, Talisman, Axel Rudi Pell and God knows what else during the mid 1990's that he needed yet another project? Well, I guess I can't complain when the result is an album as impressive as Human Clay.

This album has everything you love about high energy melodic rock. There are great guitar hooks (see the instrumental title track), infectious melodies, some sweet solos, and of course Soto's amazing vocals. It's a 1996 album that sounds exactly like a great 1986 album. Fortunately Soto never embraced the grunge/alternative sound, instead giving us album after album of old school melodic rock. "Don't Look Back" would have been a huge single in the 80's, and songs like "Heaven on Earth" and "Outside Lookin' In" are just as impressive, but honestly I don't think there's a weak song on the whole album.

If you're a Jeff Scott Soto fan, Human Clay is a no-brainer. It's easily as good as his work in Talisman and Takara, and that's saying something. The best part is that the band's follow-up (1997's U4ia) is even better. Human Clay should please just about any fan of melodic rock and AOR."
