"Words cannot uttter the joy these men always brought to the stage, and now on this re-mastered compliation of favorites. "Get Away Jordan" never sounded to good! For those that love southern gospel male quartet singing, come listen to the "gents" that paved the way! The Statesmen on this recording are equal to the Cathedral Quartet of today. I'm sure Big Chief, Doy, Rosie, Denver, Jake and Hovie would have never guessed 40 years later there would still be a strong following of this group--folks still hungry to hear the Sensational Statesmen Quartet, yet now, remastered on CD and top quality cassette. Long live Hovie Lister & The Statesmen Quartet!"

"What a memory recall! I grew up with this music and since receiving the CD, have listened to it in the car, at work and at home. If you like old-time Southern Gospel music, then this will fill your need."
A "Must Have" for southern gospel music fans.

"I grew up with Hovie Lister & the Statesman, because my uncle, Jim "Big Chief" Wetherington sang bass with the group from 1949 until his passing in 1973. The Statesman's music, to me, transcend religion. The art form they presented (and still present)with their music, while expressing the joy of religion and God, is, quite frankly, just darn-good!This collection is the essential Statesman, and their music has withstood the test of time. I have listened to many different types of music over the years, and frankly, most music gets stale after repeated playing. Not the Statesman's music though..I have never tired of listening to it. This particular CD recording is remarkable as the quality is better than the original "analog" recording releases. In agree with other reviews that wish all of the Statesman music could be re-released.If you like four-part-harmony music, and southern gospel music at it's finest, you must purchased this CD!!If you like the Statesman, or remember the group, please email me, I would love to hear from you!"
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!

"Being a fan who is only 19 years old, I really appreciate the re-release of some of these old recordings of the Statesmen. It is really hard to find the old records, and the re-release of some of that material on CD is a great idea. I think that this group is the greatest ever!!!! The late, great first tenor of this group Rosie Rozell (1958-1969)is my hero and it was really wonderful that he is on this recording. I think that they should consider releasing all of the Statesmen's old recordings on again."
This is a wonderful CD!

"What a wonderful CD! As a teenager in the 50s I loved going to the "Singings" in Memphis, and the Statesmen and Blackwoods were my favorites. When I got a little older and moved away I gave away all of my recordings (along with my Elvis albums--why do we do these things?) and had not heard the music since then until I stumbled onto it on Amazon.com. I had no idea it was even available. I had forgotten how good the Statesmen were--the wonderful, close harmonies, the distinctive quality of their voices, the exceptional piano work. The quality of this CD is outstanding, you would think these songs were recorded yesterday, not 40 years ago. More, please!"
