Synopsis

Album Description
"While the abandon of their stage presence is something to behold, what they are capable of committing in the studio is staggeringly beautiful, skewed pop." -- PopMatters [8/10] "Houseguest is simply the best pop band in the country." -- McSweeney's "Akron's Houseguest is the kind of visitor you can receive into your home without reservations. High Strangeness will quickly become a permanent resident, filling your quarters with music that's relentlessly catchy and smart, tight but jittery, muscle toned but not bulging. Grade: A." -- COLUMBUS ALIVE "Houseguest is a bunch of smart guys making smart, fun music." -- AKRON BEACON JOURNAL Houseguest is a famous pop rock band from Akron, Ohio. Houseguest's live shows have, in the past, turned into debacles, with shirt removal, sing-alongs, and drunken arguments between band members as par for the course. Tales grow with the telling, and now such unruliness is often expected of the band. The members are more than willing to comply, but Houseguest is much more than just five badly behaved college bums. The songwriting is well honed, and the sound is the band's own. The group has seen much of the horror of life, but would rather instill hope than coddle despair. Save your grief for the funeral! Houseguest is here for the party. High Strangeness is the first album by Houseguest on Audio Eagle Records. It was recorded and produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys at the Eagle's Nest in Spring 2006. The album's fourteen tracks range from frenetic pop barnburners to heartfelt, anthemic ballads.

CD Reviews

This album RULES

"This album rules, and i should know, since i'm in the band. I play guitar.

The singing is really good, but the guitar playing is really awesome. It sounds so sweet. Every note is correct! Here is a quote from my 'zine:

"If one is supposed to treat a guitar like a gorgeous woman, than listening to High Strangess is to hear Dave Rich ravage that woman's body again and again."

Buy this record!

WHY IS THIS SO OBSCURE?
Strobe Lights And Blown Speakers | Louisville | 11/07/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"one of the year's best hidden gems! glorious indie pop/rock in the vein of Maximo Park, The Shins, and The Smiths! very well-written with tightly structured, highly listenable, and catchy tracks! WHY IS THIS SO OBSCURE? this is the record that pitchfork would cream about and praise as "the next big thing". but alas, f-ck pitchfork anyway. but i disgress--this is a great album nonetheless. it really deserves to be popular and if a few people heard it, it would be (i think this band needs a new manager, because they should be blowin' up already).

again, sooo catchy and soooo well-written with great crooning, Morrisey-like vocals, great jangly guitars, super-tight rhythms, sweet and smooth drums, and ultra-groovin basslines.

FIND IT!!!"
