CD ReviewsReview from ...girlpunk.... GirlPunk.Net | nj | 03/25/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Boy, does Fat Mike of NOFX know how to pick them. He helped produce this first full length album alongside Justin Phelps and Hotbox themselves. Hailing from San Francisco, the band's debut album, Lickity Split, is fast, fun, and melodic. At first glance of the "risque" album cover you would think Hotbox was an all girl punk band featuring three woman and a "banana split" (use your imagination). This is not so however, Mel Chappel is the only femme in this five member band. Front woman Mel Chappel is full of energy and melody, backed by an exuberant array of punk rock choppy chords and deverse "Punkabilly" leads. Hotbox sounds like a conglomeration of many well known punksters such as: The Ramones, Joan Jett, Lunachicks, Tilt and Screeching Weasel. For instance, the first song "Take You On" (which, by the way is my favorite song on the album, among many others) sounds like Joan Jett mixed with Screeching Weasel. They cover a song called "Johnny Are You Queer?" which was a blast from the past, although I still can't figure out who originally sang the song...great cover though! I would highly reccomend this album to anyone. Check it out, it's worth it. All in all this album kicks...!"
