Amazon.comThe "star" of this recording would have to be Lowell Greer, who plays the natural (valveless) horn throughout. You might think it strange to hear Brahms on period instruments, but he intended his famous Trio for this instrument, not for the modern valved horn, which was already in use when he wrote the piece. Greer is amazing, handling his treacherous instrument with great dexterity and musicianship. He blends well in the Brahms and then plays the showy Beethoven Sonata with virtuosic flair. Stephanie Chase and Steven Lubin, both wonderful musicians, collaborate very effectively. Even the unknown Krufft Sonata is fun to hear on this winning disc. --Leslie Gerber
