Sammy Sam,"Knuckle Up
SouljaC | Da South | 03/19/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"He's Back!Sam from Oomp Camp is on his 2nd nationwide album entitled "Knuckle Up."He start's this album out with an intro followed by "Big Oomp Run Downsouth" which is telling who run it basically. This song has a smooth, laid back chorus with Sam,Loko and Shawty Beezelee all dropping lyrics on a tight bass filled beat.Tight track. After another short skit,"Knuckle Up" comes in.This is one of the tightest tracks on the album. The beat is filled with bass and Sam along with Beezelee and Dollar come strong. "Who We Be" is the next track. This track is another tight one. It's a really low toned track, with a slow beat but still filled with bass."I'm That Type Of Nigga" is track #6.I don't really like this track that much,it's slow and not exciting if ya know what I mean. "Dope Boy" is the follow up track. This track is decent,I don't really like that beat hat much,The chorus pretty "dope" though.Track 8 is not even mentioned on the back of the album cover,I don't know why and I dont know what the name of it so i'm call it "Untitled."It's a decent track with a funky beat and the chorus sucks. "Drama" is another slow trak on the album. This song just sucks and Swade raps the first verse.Nothing else to say bout it."I'm Comin" is the so called come back of Sam.The beat is pretty tight and starts out with chanting through out the first part and the chorus.Other then that it's a pretty tight track,I like the brass in the beat."We Too Deep" is with Sam,Baby D,Lil C,Dollar. The beat is really simple at first at Baby D's part but it picks up quickly when Dollar comes in.The chorus is horrible also. "Roll Wit The Big Boyz" is track 13.They talk for a little over 30 seconds. The song is aiight,Sam raps this whole song by 'emself. It's a decent track."We Hard Down Here" is a very faced paced track with B Real (of Intoxicated) and Raheem.I don't like this track at all,It's meant for the clubs not the car stereos and so forth.Raheem don't come to good on this at all. "Half Gorilla" is another decent track. The beat takes a second to start. The beat is really slow and dull.Thats the only thing that is disappointing."He Fo Real" is track #16 and this song was also on the "Last Man Standin."It's a tight track with hardly a beat and really laid back. The last song on the album is the worst, called "Life Of An O.G."Sam get's help from fellow Oomp Camp member Loko.Nothing can help this track--It's horrible. All in All this is a decent follow up to "Last Man Standin" by Sam.I'd pick this album up if you wanna hear something new or like ATL music."
