"For the die-hard fans of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, this CD is definitely worth searching for. It includes early recordings from those who knew and worked closely with Grieg during his lifetime as well as two rare recordings from Mr. Grieg himself (recorded in 1903 - four years before his death).
Sound quality ranges from close to great to lower than standard especially in the 1903 recordings which are marred by a high level of surface noise. However, the historical aspect of the recordings in this CD are highly significant and should not be overlooked. Along with the two recordings of Grieg performing his own music, the other highlight of this disc is a powerful 1938 performance of Severin Eisenberger performing Grieg's acclaimed Piano Concerto which had never been released before.
As stated above, this CD is a must for the diehard Grieg fan. As far as I know, this is the only disc available that includes Grieg performing his own music. While the sound is old fashioned here, it's not difficult to listen to the performances on this CD and not be moved.
