"Before this performance was recorded, to be true, the only available and solvent version of this notable Violin Concerto, had name and surname. Ivry Gitlis.
But after Oistrakh accepted the invitation of Paul Hindemith to perform this marvelous piece, the parameters of comparison changed radically. Hindemith, the director added the mystery and Oistrakh the harmony. In addition, the London Symphony being aware the level of excellence in the podium of composer- director and this living legend of the violin, was really magnificent. The result has been one of the most gratifying and memorable musical moments in the music of the XX Century.
The Symphonic Metamorphoses is perhaps the only stain of the CD, because of the fact that Rafael Kubelik and the Chicago Symphony literally labeled their sign for the posterity.
Under Kletzki's baton this Mathis sounds incredibly original; despite The Suisse Romande doesn't have the supreme tonal opulence of the Philadelphia Orchestra (Ormandy) or the fabulous expansiveness of the Berlin Philharmonic (under the conduction of the own composer), this talented conductor gets to convey the listener to unthinkable horizons through a smart use of his audacious chromatic textures, brilliant filigrees and a wonderful handle of rubato, specially in the final code. I love this version, and I hope you do in case you acquire it.
Don't miss it!
