Better than Gould

"While I am an enormous fan of Glenn Gould's recordings, his Hindemith Piano Sonatas disappointed me. This recording(part of a multitude of Hindemith recordings by Ensemble Villa Musica) was excellent. It has, what I consider to be, the perfect balance of intelligence and lyricism. While I found Gould's recording dry and detached, the Ensemble Villa Musica recording seems to be much more in touch with bringing out the beauty of these Sonatas along with Hindemith's compositional intracacies. While the Gould recording is a must for the collector of Gould recordings, I feel that the Ensemble Villa Musica recording is a must for any Hindemith fan."
