"I was attracted to this because I am a fan of Josh Groban and watched Chess the Concert on TV initially. Having not heard of the production previously, both the music and story-line were completely new. I discovered beautiful music, lyrics and a complex but moving romatic story, but interwoven with a bit of life choices we all face. I must admit I was at first uncertain of Groban's choice as the Russian chess champion, but his magnificient voice carried his vocal performances all the way. In addition, his acting was surprising well done. A great professional cast and direction sold the DVD and CD for me! Again, a big stretch for Josh, but he never ceases to amaze."
Outstanding concert!

"Of all the versions of "Chess" I've heard, this one is the most poignant and classic-with heartbreaking performances by Idina Menzel and a surprising Josh Groban. The clear and informative notes by Tim Rice clarify the updating of the 1980's plot and make it timeless. Adam Pascal adds a wonderful dimension to the "ugly American" and make this recording a must have for any fan of musical theatre."
