Great Mono Mixes

"This compilation has no shortage of hits. More than half of the programme includes their better-known tracks; "Sea Cruise", "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter", "(Something Tells Me) I'm Into Something Good", etc. And it includes a number of interesting lesser-known tracks; "No Milk Today" (one of my favorite Herman & The Hermits tunes), "I Understand", etc. I still don't know whose version of "Dandy" I like better, Herman's or the Kinks'. But having this CD around makes comparing the two enjoyable.
Including the original mono mixes from the 45 RPM EPs maintains the aesthetic purity of the release and the stereo mixes are easily procured. For those, I'd recommend the double CD ""The Best Of The EMI Years".
The sound quality is very good; unlike some of the releases by See For Miles, this one appears to have been mastered from mix-down tapes, rather than vinyl. While it appears to be unavailable here at Amazon, Peter Noone's web site claims to have it available for ordering.
I give this collection a 5 star rating because there aren't any glaring omissions, the sound is perfect mono and the packaging is clever."
