Album DescriptionA total of eight works by Mendelssohn have come down to us which can be ascribed to the genre of the string quartet. Already in his first proper quartets we can see that the young composer was not only building on the classical models of Haydn and Mozart, but had also made an intensive and creative study of Beethoven?s late quartet works. The Henschel Quartet have been awarded a number of prizes for their interpretations, e.g. for their much-recognized recording of Ginastera string quartets for Arte Nova. The quartet performs regularly in prestigious chamber music cycles worldwide and is a guest at numerous renowned music festivals. The Henschel Quartet has won numerous prizes since 1995, and their highly-acclaimed stand-in for the Juilliard Quartet in London?s Wigmore Hall, broadcasted by the BBC, led to international recognition as one of today?s finest chambe ensembles.
