Synopsis

Album Description

Hedzoleh Soundz were one of the first and most original 'Afro' bands from '70s Ghana fusing traditional music with western rock. They were residents at the notorious Napoleon nightclub where they met trumpeter Hugh Masekela in late 1973. The music for the Hedzoleh album would later be used by Masekela as the backbone to his Afro-jazz classic, Masekela - Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz.

"One of the earliest bands to fuse Afrocentric traditional music with western rock in Ghana, in the early 1970s. Discovered & promoted by Hugh Masekela, they composed much of the material for his Hedzoleh Soundz album. The African roots of the music dominate, and to my ears, this makes for an exciting and exotic cross-cultural experience. Their one LP lapsed into obscurity. Now it's back. This CD is excellent!
