"Long before The Eagles and The Flying Burrito Brothers, another little known local Hollywood band was influencing the country/pop crowd down at The Troubadour. The Hearts & Flowers were so far ahead of their time. This little trio of bluegrass/rock & rollers combined the best of the two styles into an inspirational sound and helped make bluegrass music "cool & accecptable" to the hip L.A community. Bee Gees meet Bill Monroe...recorded at the famed Capitol Records Studio during the peak of Vietnamn, student protests, the Sunset Strip riots...the LA music fabric was changing and the music of The Hearts & Flowers reflected that change. Larry Murray, Bernie Leadon, Davis Dawnson and Rick Cunna may not have sold many records..but their genious and spirit influenced not only myself, but a long line of singer songwriters...who themselves would later put together bands such as THE EAGLES, THE BURRITOS, SWAMPWATER, etc. These guys were the REAL heros of LA country rock, folks...and this is a chance for you to listen to how it really was in Hollywood....music that really mattered. The Hearts & Flowers were the biggest kept secret in country rock history. Dont miss this CD.John Beland /THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS"

"First heard this when I was 18 from a friend that was into such obscurities. I found the harmonies and stringed accompanyment perfect for the songs, a real essay of the time for me. Was my going into the army, on my way to Viet Nam peaceful music. So glad to find a copy in CD."
I haven't hear this in years.

"I can remember when Rick Cunha and Dave Dawson used to sing together in Honolulu. I thought they were wonderful. Rick had a band called Ricky and the Facemakers. I was an honorary facemaker. Then they left and went to California. And we heard that they were part of the Hearts and Flowers. The first album came out the same day as Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. We played the two back to back non-stop for a couple of days. The Hearts and Flowers sounded good even in that environment. I'm glad to have some of their work available again."
