"In preparation of a performance of Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major (vivace) with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, I went in search of recordings of this piece to study. I'd listened to 3 or 4 pianists' interpretations of these works before I happened upon Pletnev, and my search stopped there. Pletnev works magic with the music. I fell in love with the tones he was able to produce, his musical line, his balance with the orchestra, tempo, everything. I don't have as much emotional connection with either of the other two concertos on this recording, but they are done quite spectacularly, as well.I highly recommend this recording; it can be fun, relaxing, or intense, depending on your connection with the music itself. Truly enjoyable."

Fine Haydn Piano Concertos

"Pletnev shows he is a fine interpreter of Haydn, judging from this recording. He plays with ample warmth and brilliance, as well as with superb technique. The chamber orchestra accompanying him is also quite good. I must commend Virgin/EMI for the fine quality of this CD. Anyone interested in a splendid introduction to Haydn's piano concerti will not want to pass up this CD."
