Very good demos from Sonic Attack era

"Let me start off by saying that this series is for hardcore collectors. If you're new to Hawkwind start off with Doremi Fasol or Space Ritual. With that said, this is a very good CD. Most of them are demo quality and it's interesting to hear alternate versions of cuts that made it to the Sonic Attack album (1981). I think I like the demo version of Speed of Light (Transdimenional Man) better than the album cut. Other notable tracks include "Winter of Discontent" and "Looking In the Future"Unfortunately, this album gets a point knocked off because the TRACKS ARE NOT IN THE ORDER OF THE LISTINGS - NOT EVEN CLOSE!! On some of the lesser known demos, good luck trying to match the song with the title. Despite this, I highly recommend Vol 7 to fans and collectors...I'm happy it's available, even if the track listings are screwed up."

The sound is excellent, very good recording, mixing, and mastering.



********************The Music

Although it says Hawkwind on the album, this is a Dave Brock solo work. It is just him using sequencers, synths, drum machines, and the occasional guitar to lay down some demos, many of which ended up on Hawkwind albums. If you're curious as to how Hawk songs develop, this is a good one to get.



The sound is much different than a Hawkwind album, but it is still great material. I would even say that some of the tracks work better here than on the actual Hawkwind albums.



The most surprising track is Brock reciting Shakespeare, that alone is worth the price of admission.

Should you get this one? That depends. If you are looking for psych or stoner rock, then no. But if you want to hear a talented musician in the process of crafting songs, then yes pick this one up."
