Beautiful music

"I see why so many people in the business have been talking about her. It is time she stopped being the best kept secret. I listened to a lot of Cuban Jazz back home in Paris and in the time I lived in Barcelona and now in Acapulco. This is some of the best I've heard in a long time. She is a beautiful singer. The band is very good, all acoustic. My favorites are "Olvidame", "Funny Little Dream" and "seashells" which sounds like you are on the beach even though she uses no electric instruments. Beautiful music."

"Havana Carbo and I have been friends for years now (I should be shot for not writing this sooner!). And never have I felt so blessed as to be able to talk about a fellow musician's work--from a completely unbiased viewpoint--that sounds as if I wrote it purely out of the personal relationship and love I have for the artist herself. The music is just that real; just that good.Every song on this immaculate CD brings you back to a time when this Afro-Cuban/Brazilian sound was innovative and traditionally, gloriously old simultaneously...when the feel of the beach and the ocean and the transcendent smile borne from a familial joy of the spirit of a people on the shores of Cuba (pronounce it right: "koobah")...vibrating, dancing in Santo Domingo, Sao Paulo, Havana, Miami and the special special streets of uptown New York on a mild summer night...coming from and through a woman whose roots go deep into the African, Cuban and Brasilian earth...a singer with a deep past, bowing gracefully to her predecessors and influences, while walking charmingly and with the honor of a lady into the hearts of her musical descendants.... I literally play this CD at least five or six times a week--sometimes twice in a single day--as it does everything a good therapist, a night out, an all-over body massage, a beautiful work of art and reminiscing picture postcards of my own travels in the summertime does for both me and my girlfriend. Havana sings some of the most haunting original melodies and a couple of beautfully chosen standards in the most enchantingly cool, subtle and quietly--poignantly--confident ways. This CD could easily be for those curious about Afro-Cuban or Afro-Brazilian music what Miles Davis' KINDA BLUE is for all those curious about jazz in its entirety: the recodring you simply must have, regardless of what you like. Imagine the strong cool and aura of Sarah Vaughn, the sweet and introspective depth of Shirley Horn and the inner smile of Celia Cruz wrapped in a woman relaxing on the beach, sharing the gentle reminiscences of her once broken but ever-joyful heart, accompanied by players forming one of the best Afro-Brazilian rhythm sections in the industry...and you have Havana Carbo's introductory CD. It is simply impossible not to love it."
