Unbelievable Silliness and Fun
08/18/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After seeing these guys live this past summer, I couldn't help but fall in love with this new album. "America" has a little bit for everyone: a lot of country-rock, a touch of hip-hop, and even a hawaiin ballad. "America" is definitely HRL's best yet. Songs like "Mississippi River" and "Lit'l Darlin" are sure to win over any listener the first time they are heard. "California" has almost a Doors meets George Jones feel to it. This cd is worth the 13 bucks you spend on it, hands down. So do your ears a favor and buy "America" and get the funk in your trousers."

"The album is excellent. The tunes are based off a road-trip Havalina took across American soil. If you enjoy No Depression Country, you may like this album. I wouldn't label it that genre, but it definitely has country influence. There's some mouth harp and banjo and yodeling (Matt yodels in track 17). is about Clint Eastwood in "The Good the Bad and the Ugly"; it rocks. is a sort of Errrie song, with catchy lyrics, about a guy from overseas who..."leaves his milk, and he takes his pay; then quietly he goes away." In addition to the quality sound, there's some art value that makes you think about...America."

"Havalina Rail Co. is one of the most creative bands I have heard or seen in a long time. The amazing talent they possess is something that is very rare in the 90's. America is their finest album yet. Songs like Mississippi River and Flower of the Desert are sure to please. Others, like Bullfrog and California leave the listener in awe. I highly recommend giving America a spin."
