Amazon.comCatherine Caumont plays the first two sonatas on this disc with such delightful inflection and imagination that I thought I was in for a real treat. In the third sonata, though (K. 184), she starts using very extreme rhythmic deviations for expressive effect. I thought it might be something she was trying just for the one sonata, but the same thing happens in the next one, and in many of the others. It's maddening, unmusical, and downright ridiculous. Wasn't there a music producer on this job? For far better Scarlatti on the harpsichord try Kipnis (Chesky CD 75), Black (CRD 3442), Cole (Amon Ra CD SAR 27), or damn near anyone else. --Leslie Gerber
