Celebrate Or Something
Steven Swan | Illinois | 06/06/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hardcore Superstar are a band that shows you their influences and keeps it fresh at the same time. Just good hard rock with plenty of glam feel to it is what I hear when I listen to this Cd. Plenty of rockers with powerful verses, and sing along/shout along choruses, plus plenty of guitar solos to air guitar to...that is if you are not too cool to do that still.

It's not reinventing rock n roll, and it's not math rock; just plain hard rock. One thing I was thinking, if it was 1986 these guys would be kings of rock, but sadly it isn't. If you are into good time hard rock for a party or just for getting you fired up in generel though, these guys are for you!

One thing you notice is the influences. I hear plenty of Faster Pussycat in songs such as "Last Forever", and "Wild Boys". You hear a good AC/DC song with "Blood On Me" also. But they manage to add enough extras that those bands might not have put in to make it work for them also, so it's not so much just copying their style, but keeping it going to another level; or at least carrying on the tradition.

"We Don't Celebrate Sundays" is a great example of something that sounds truly like Hardcore Superstar, and Jocke Berg sounds best when doing these types of songs to me. "Standin On The Verge" is another good one, he has a fine rock voice; not too raspy, and not too high pitched either. They offer many different sounds on this record, and all of them to me are a fine representation of gritty, glam tinged, hard rock and roll. "She's Offbeat", and "Hateful" are great songs also, which I have taken a liking to.

If you are into Velvet Revolver, Beautiful Creatures, Killingbird, The Wildhearts, Hanoi Rocks etc...that kind of stuff, then you'll love Hardcore Superstar's latest."
