Synopsis
Album Description HAPPY THE MAN is a superb american Progressive rock group, creating a hyper refined and elaborated music with lots of breaks and tempo changes, showing a rare instrumental richness (Two keyboards, saxophone, flute, guitar, vocals & percussions) and remarkable talents of composers. The Musea remastered reissues from the two first official albums present a music between Progressive rock and Canterbury style, with complex and captivating writting, full of permanent surprises which make the eponymous opus (1977) and "Crafty Hands" (1978) real successes. CD ReviewsHappy The Man - Essential American Progressive Rock Steven Sly | Kalamazoo, MI United States | 05/04/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "For me this is the band's high water mark. The album is stellar in every capacity and a fine example of a batch of virtuoso's musicians at the top of their game. I honestly think that the one element that raises this album above the band's debut is the percussion work of Ron Riddle. Riddle (who also did a stint with Blue Oyster Cult) has a style that fits perfectly within the Happy The Man framework and I consistently find myself playing air drums to this album. The remastered sound on this disc is incredible as well. Every nuance of the music comes through and it is an outstanding listen with a good set of speakers. Everything on the disc is instrumental with the exception of "Wind Up Doll Day Wind". A strange title, but a cool song. Most of the rest of the album have become Happy The Man classics, "Service With A Smile", "Steaming Pipes", "Ibby It Is", "I Forgot To Push It", they are all great. If you are into classic American progressive rock this album is essential." Incredible Bob Armbruster | Blacklick, OH | 03/11/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Another fine example of the kind of great experimental rock that existed prior to Thrash Metal" Crafty Hands Clyde | Australia | 12/10/2007 (2 out of 5 stars) "Musicianship is top notch, production is kind of sterile, compositions are not overly memorable. Give it a try if you can find it cheap, but it's far from essential listening."
