CD ReviewsFantastic 05/18/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "The variations on "Happy Birthday", "Auld Lang Syne" and "God Save the King" (otherwise known as "My Country, 'Tis of Thee") are fun, but the jewel of this album is the Blitz Fantasy by Georgian composer Vato Kakhidze. Think Samuel Barber plus Mystere des Voix Bulgares. The composer sings in the Georgian folk style, and his theme is interwoven with the chamber orchestra, who play with a very nice sense of dynamics. The climax of the four movements, choral singing accompanied by an organ, rhythmic hand clapping, cymbals, strings and woodwinds, sounds crazy when described, but is absolutely thrilling. The style of singing may take some getting used to, but if you appreciate world music and romantic classical compositions, don't miss it!
