Synopsis

Amazon.com essential recording
Hank 101. Country 101. After 27 years in print as 24 Greatest Hits, Mercury kindly reduced it to 20 Greatest Hits. It's still excellent value, and it's still sobering to realize that Hank recorded just 66 songs during his lifetime, almost all of them essential. Here are those that serve as a working definition of country music, and as an admonition to artists who try to get too wordy or try to lose themselves in minor keys. "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Honky-Tonk Blues," "Cold, Cold Heart," "Lovesick Blues," "You Win Again," "I Can't Help It," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," and the rest. Fifty years later, they still have the power to move, and the power to shape modern country music. --Colin Escott

Awesome cd, Hank is the true King Of Country Music. all of Hank's songs are great. And he recorded way more than 66 songs. not sure why the description says that.

A Flash From The Past

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Whether I liked it or not, I grew up with Hank Williams and what was known as "country-western". Hank Williams was my father's favorite. When my father died in 1991, one of my brothers purchased a greatest hits tape and we laughed because it brought back so many memories. When I saw today's deal, I knew I had to add it to my collection. As I listened to the previews, I realized that I knew the words to these songs and it took me back to a time that is sometimes forgotten.

Thanks Amazon for throwing a twist into the mix!"
