"It seems like Hangnail's demo 'Charge the Vibe' was only released yesterday, but as Andrew Carter (who reviewed the Charge The Vibe Demo) Said: "If there is more where this came from there is no way these guys won't have a record out by next year" those were words of wisdom as Hangnail released One million Layers B.C. Within a year of AC's prediction. Now here is there second release containing new material '10 DAYS BEFORE SUMMER'. The opening track OVERHANG is a fasted paced little number. The contrast of down tuned guitars and groovy high little riffs is truly superb. The drums follow a stop/start régime, leaving the guitars to do the work. The song itself is 4 min 32 seconds long although it seems like 1 minute. hangnail have definitely chosen the right song to open their debut album. Side/slide is a very much so 'chill out,' psychedelic track. This is the first time we experience the female vocals. The female vocals remind me of some sort of Indian folk song (if there is such a thing), come to think of it most sections of the song remind me of some sort of traditional Indian song (but without Sitars and with heavy guitar sections). All in all one of my favorite Hangnail tracks. 'Keep on' begins with a nice little 'happy' acoustic section, then the rhythm changes and the guitars offer us a mellow tune. The lyrics for this track are excellent. The song is constantly building up and up. Eventually you find yourself in a fast tribal drum and acoustic guitar scenario. The drums pound faster until, the song reaches its climax. There is a pause and the down tuned heavy guitars kick in. The lyrics are damn good too, this has to be one of Hangnails finest 6 1/2 minutes. 'Summer Rain' is a superb fast number, with it's catchy riffs, and it's fast solos.  The 'closing' track to Hangnails first full length assault on the world 'One Million Layers B.C.' is a strange song. The song concentrates on the percussion department an awful lot, which is a good thing. The female vocals are out again and enforcing the shire brutality of this mammoth track. This track leaves a definite imprint on your brain. The solo in this song is excellent starting in a 'bluesy' fashion and ending up in true rock and roll.  "

"If you are lucky enough to have stumbled across this page you should definitely buy this CD. I am a big fan of bands like Metallica, the Mighty Mighty BossTones, and Radiohead and hangnail is definitely a good buy. It isn't just a bang your head band; they have a radiohead contemporary feel and it makes for great listening."
