Sometime at the beginning of the 18th century Handel and Scarlatti had a keyboard competition. Both were so good that the winner couldn't be decided, except the general feeling was that Handel was a bit better on the organ, and Scarlatti on the harpsichord. Handel's organ concertos seem to bear this out, not only because he composed no concertos for harpsichord, but because he was so good an improviser that he left whole movements of these works blank, with instructions for the performer like, "OK fella, improvise the slow movement here." That means that a lot is riding on the ability of the organist to get into the swing of things, which is exactly what happens here. These are full of pep and, most important of all, a sense of adventure. --David Hurwitz

CD Reviews

SHEER BLISS

"A beautifully played (on a restored organ Handel himself played!) and recorded album of sumptuous baroque. Certainly the best performances of Handel's organ concertos I've heard. The organ creates a nicely percussive counterweight to the sweetness of the period instruments - this is the baroque recording that will put paid to any notions of baroque as saccharine. And the bonus Harp concerto is blissful. Highly recommended."
Trust me it's worth it!

"I know I know... The price... But you'll be hard-pressed to find a recording approaching this execution by Goodman and Co. In the hands of others, these works feel laborious and less inspiring.

If you want to enjoy Handel's Organ, enjoy it well with this recording."
