"If I'd have to illustrate by a nickname this band known as Gypsy Soul, it'd probably be "the Holy Grail of the pop music bands of today". Roman Morykit, producer, is also the multi-instrument player responsible for most of the lovely melodies found on this album, 'Sanctuary'. And, you won't be surprised if I admit being enthralled by their music, a thing I am not enclined very often to; after all, I think there are not that many musicians these days that can compete with Gypsy Soul, or that could claim being on the same musical level. It's a fact, Morykit's bass playing is done with splendour, his musical spirit further strenghtened by a "jazz attitude" which makes parts of his playing a near display of the virtuosis' approach. His soloist penchant adds subtleties and a little nuance of tones which "matches" the admirable voice of Cilette Swann. The guitar, with it's earthed folkish rhythms (Celtic in some tunes) is nothing but the natural complementary instrument to the vocals that unfold with a somewhat ravishing lust of textures. As a result, Morykit's music possesses sensitivity and freedom. These qualities are part of the success of the tunes found on 'Sanctuary' and on their other albums as well.Personally, I've been struck when listening for the first time to Cilette Swann's fine voice; this singer and competent lyricist uses her voice as an instrument, with grace (in her case, this is more of the Guarnerius sort). Smoothness of the silk is counterbalanced by a powerful, soprano-like accents, a sheer vitality that is best evident on tracks such as the gorgeous "We can't let this go", one of their very best songs in my opinion. Never I've been aware of some shrieking - or disturbing - notes. In Gypsy Soul there are certainly some of the most beautiful vocals (lead and harmony) to happen in a non-classical music group. The unavoidable comparisons would lead you to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, The Corrs (for a Celtic similitude of character and "parenté de style"), but that is a risky task to try to compare apples with oranges - both are good but different. Gypsy Soul have their original sound and the quality of the recorded material (even the mp3!) is of a highly professional standard. The delicious tones and delicacy of the music, the intimate and contemplative passages, the vocals, are well-captured on the recordings.Overall, what we have here is a great album by an obviously great band. The "commercial side" of some of the songs is honest rather than disturbing, and does not get in the way of the overall effect the music confidently produce. Highest recommendation."

"I love this CD. I've been a huge fan of Gypsy Soul ever since I saw them perform live nearly a year ago in San Francisco. Their latest release, Sanctuary is one of my all-time favorite Cds. Gypsy Soul is undeniably an awesome band. Their music is comprised of incredibly touching lyrics, sung by the angelic-soulful voice of Cilette Swan, carefully balanced with the instrumentally flawless sounds crafted by the master of various instruments, Roman Morykit. As a result, every song on Sanctuary is BEAUTIFULLY moving. I can't imagine being without this CD, it spins constantly through my CD player. This is more than a recomendation, it is a declaration. Sanctuary is a neccessity in every music lover's collection."

"I've been a fan of Gypsy Soul's music for about 3 years now and every time I see them perform live, they still continue to amaze me! SANCTUARY, their latest release is extraordinary. Cilette's transcendant vocals and Roman's phenomenal guitar work (and the other million instruments he experiments with!) creates the perfect balance between sheer beauty and driving intensity (good example: track #1 Can't Let This Go). Their sound is purely unique and this is definetly apparent after the first listen. If you can't experience Gypsy Soul's brilliant artistry and creative vibe at a live performance than you must experience SANCTUARY. It's the next best thing.Note: If you've heard SANCTUARY, you will definetly want to check out their other releases TEST OF TIME and SACRED."
