Album DescriptionGutbucket is a seven year old, singular New York quartet who flit from hard rock to Latin to thrash to klezmer and back. They attack their music with the kind of ferocity usually reserved for punk, despite having earned their jazz bona fides. While each band member has had training in jazz, with Sludge Test they have moved outside that world (while successfully keeping one foot inside of it) and are really aiming to bring something new to the rock world. Sludge Test is Gutbucket's fantasy album -- they recorded with the engineer Jay Pellici (Deerhoof) at Tiny Telephone Studios to create an instrumental rock record full of intense energy. "A Wurlitzer here, a saxophone quartet there, a "scream-along" -- the songs warp and develop all sorts of genetic mutations."
