Synopsis
Album Description This stripped down two-piece draws from a vast wellspring of rock influences- Sonic Youth, Sleater-Kinney, The Pixies, Joy Division, Tiger Trap, Beat Happening, The Spinanes, The Delgados, The Who, Lou Reed, and NOU (to name but a few). One unifying principle guides this band: the credo "Go for the Gusto!" Their live performances are a thing to behold, an explosion of catharsis and urgency that launches pop shrapnel into an unsuspecting audience. |
CD ReviewsJust when you thought jumpy was the new evil . . . 10/06/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Before I got this album I was I freakin' zombie. I had the White Stripes going in the car, my head bobbed a little but the nook where my soul resides(I call it Country Mouse) was a sleepy sultry den. The new rock was really this somnambulance ambulance whisking me away to a rockspital full of mumbling Stroke survivors absently using their good arms to claw at their Hives. Then came Gusto. Remember when rock was bitter and cruel and ferthalovapete sincere? Go ahead, listen to "Teaching Smokey Robinson." Then start at the begin of the album and work your way through. By "Perfect Replica" your eye-boogers will loosen and fall. Pretty soon, the tingle will tell you it's working, and you'll be trying to explain your new palindrome obsession to all your buddies."
