CD Reviews

Wednesday 13 drops the Horror for Gunfire 76
EerieVonEvil | The Rabbit Hole | 10/12/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Since the Murderdolls album in 2002, Wednesday 13 has been quite busy releasing his three horror-drenched solo albums, two country records (Bourbon Crow), and this new project Gunfire 76.

Basically, this album is like Wednesday 13's solo stuff, but without ANY horror imagery or lyrics. As he described it, this is a straight-up rock & roll record. It has several nods to the 80's Los Angeles rock scene, which makes some of the songs pretty cheesy (Los Angel-Less is pretty cringe-inducing). Lyrically, it deals with depression, loss of relationships etc etc...

I was not a fan of his country albums. I am a bit biased because I am a big horror fan so I loved that about his music. However, I listen to a lot of straight up rock like Supersuckers and I must report that W13 is a much better song writer when he sticks to the horror themes. I was somewhat bored with this record.

However, the production is crisp and clear and a lot of the songs do rock hard. Lets face it, this is better than anything you will hear on the radio. I recommend it to rock/punk fans for sure, but I don't think all fans of Mr. 13's solo stuff will like it.

On a side note, half of these songs were co-written by guitarist Todd Youth (Danzig, Son Of Sam). However, that is where his involvement ends, as he did not perform on this album, nor will he be touring with the band.

CASUALTIES & TRAGEDIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED THE BEST DAMN
Scott Bowling | Decatur, Tx USA | 04/09/2010

"I admit I am a fan of Wed13, FDQ, MrdDOLLS, but I truely believe even if I was not & just some random hard rock/sleaze/80's glam that I would still be in awe of Gunfire76. I can't even start to describe how bad a** this disk is from start to finish there is not a clunker on it. I listen to this at least once a day I used to think Wed13 songs are so catchy I bet if the lyrical content was a little different

who knows where it could go? Don't get me wrong I love that stuff I grew up on Alice Cooper, Ozzy, Wasp, Crue & 80's horror films but it does limit some of your audience. This reminds me of of some of the later Alice Cooper stuff from the 80's.

If you love good sleazy, glam, buzz saw roaring guitars YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS!"
